For the most part the Sand Rose Beach Resort was a good choice for our visit to South Padre Island. The daily breakfast was absolutely amazing (don't miss the omelette bar in the right hand dining room). The pool is small, but heated and warm and cozy (note that the small kids pool next to it is NOT heated). The website needs a lot of work. It was really difficult to book a room and what was available kept changing more frequently that made sense. I thought I was able to book a King bed with a spa tub, however on arrival we had been booked for a double queen room (no spa tub). The room was still comfortable and we didn't complain. The rooms are spacious. The hotel used to be a La Quinta and I think they are still working on changing over the branding. Hopefully they'll brighten up the room decor a bit. The furniture is all dark hued and the wall pictures are black and white, so compared to other hotels I considered, the decor was a bit blah. Upgrading TV's to smart TVs would be great. The bath tub needed some repairs but it didn't make it prohibitive to enjoy a good shower.Maid service and front counter service was excellent. When we asked for extra pillows and blankets we received them VERY quickly. The maids were friendly and respected our requests for no service for most of our visit. They were hard at work keeping all parts of the hotel clean and nice during our trip. The on site restaurant is pretty nice too, good food without being fancy at a low price point. We enjoyed eating by the pool and beach. The beach is literally RIGHT there and we enjoyed walking along the waters edge every day.I did feel like the price was a bit high for this place compared to others, in general. To be fair though I didn't compare all amenities (like I don't know if the "fancier" bigger resorts include breakfast which was a huge perk) and with the service being fantastic, I still don't regret staying here.Be aware this is a hot spring and summer break destination. We were here in the winter season and enjoyed the quieter, elderly crowd of "winter Texans" whereas it may not be quite as quiet in the warmer months.
