TLDR: Lovely, but best if you're driving.
I got a deal here through Booking.com from which I enjoyed a large, waterside room for a low price, which was great. The location is quite out of the way if you don't come in a car. I walked into Oakland via the pathway by the water, and also via the bridge that crosses the highway. Although the coastal route is nice for a while, neither of these are pleasant ways to get anywhere. The neighbourhood across the highway bridge is very poor and many people may feel uncomfortable walking that way, although I didn't encounter any issues. If you are a pedestrian, factor in the costs of Ubers at night into the total price of staying here. Alameda island is nearby and well worth a visit. The pool looked nice although I didn't use it. Breakfast was brilliant - I have never seen a waffle iron in a hotel before but it was a great addition!
My one suggestion to improve service at the hotel would be to provide the WiFi code upon arrival or in the rooms. I had to return to the desk to ask, which isn't a big problem at all, but it is odd to not have it immediately accessible.
