House of 1833. What a DELIGHT! From the unique interior to the beautifully appointed rooms to the gourmet 3 course breakfast. The attention to detail is beyond exceptional.
The stately 1833 Greek Revival mansion is extraordinary. It's everything you expect from an 1833 home, gorgeous wide-plank flooring that creaks from a well-worn past. An exquisite hand-painted staircase mural more than 100 years ago completes your entry. The stories of the home are told from the colorful owner Evan Nickles. He speaks as an historian, from his family's colorful past, to present, Evan gives life to every piece of furniture and oddity. Mr. Nickles is a delightful gentleman, a wonderful storyteller, and an extraordinary cook, from his apron to his chefs hat. The home is a complete story, it's interior carefully and lovingly curated. If you love history, uniqueness and a travel back in time, then please stay at the House of 1833. Don't expect perfection, expect an experience.

Amazing stay! The house was stunningly beautiful. Evan was so incredibly kind and welcoming. He cooked us the most amazing breakfast we’ve ever had!! He is a phenomenally talented chef and a wonderful host! The room was cozy and beautiful. We very much enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again soon! Definitely recommend! Wonderful location as well, quiet and charming area but so close to so many things to do.

If I could give this place 6 stars I would. The owner is FANTASTIC. He cooks breakfast every morning and everything we had was delicious. He also has incredible attention to detail. My husband and I stayed at this B&B for our elopement- we were able to have our ceremony in the front parlor, and as part of their elopement package we got to have a cake, champagne, a beautiful bouquet, and a certificate to a delicious local restaurant. Everything was beautiful and calm and wonderful. Also, the house stays incredibly warm which is quite a feat for an old house in the middle of December.

It's one of a kind place. It's like staying in a museum. We stayed in the Peach room on the 1st floor, and it was amazing. We stayed Veterans Day weekend, no pool in November, but we plan on returning on another trip. Great location to.

Evan made an unbelievable breakfast for us. I am not a breakfast person normally, but damn I ate everything.

After reading multiple reviews, here is my opinion. This place may not be for everyone. This is a house that is almost 200 years old. Are the rooms clean, yes. Are they spotless, no. Are there sighs of wear and age, sure but it ads to the whole experience of staying there.

Different people have different experiences, ours was great and we would stay there again.

This place is pure magic. From the second we walked in the door it became clear that this would be a stay we will absolutely never forget. The house is absolutely stunning. It’s quirky and weird in the best possible way while also being incredibly tasteful and elegant. There is so much love and passion poured into this place and it is apparent at every turn. It’s also got everything you could want from a modern hotel- very comfortable bed, great shower, amazing pool- while also providing an experience that transports you back in time. Evan could not have been more welcoming and wonderful to talk to, he has so much information to share about the house, it’s so clear that his passion has made this place what it is. He also loves Mystic and the surrounding area and has lots of great tips to help you get the most out of your trip. Bonus that there are two very sweet dogs on the property. We will be back here. Not sure when, but we will. Magical!

Beautiful place. Our room was the Carolyn. Perfect. Great views, good sized room, delicious breakfast, and the staff were great. Especially the man that checked us in and also brought us our breakfast. Very kind and respectful and personable. Wish we had gotten his name. Just a great stay all the way around. Highly Recommend! ⚓

I'm getting ready to check out of the Steamboat Inn's "Early Dawn" Suite. The suite was spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully appointed. The view (windows spanning the entire wall) looks out over the river. It is RIGHT on the river, which is a bit disconcerting the first time the sailing vessel Argia passes under your window! The employees are extremely friendly and accommodating. Complimentary breakfast was delicious. Parking was easy.

The inn is right on the Mystic River with a gorgeous view. Free breakfast with the stay. Right next to all of the shops in town. Free parking. Only complaint would be that we were told there would be spare towels and blankets in the closet, but the closet was empty.

Fantastic early overnight stay for Valentine’s Day ! We chose the Annie Wilcox room for our first time staying at the Steamboat Inn as our first choice was already taken. Sandra texted us that our room was available 2 hours early and she was wonderful getting us an extra log for our fireplace and ordering our take out dinner for us at The Mariner. Even getting me a bacon cheeseburger I was craving that wasn’t on the menu. Over and beyond customer service here ! Location is wonderful even in off season, you can walk everywhere. Some stores were closed but we found plenty of stores to wander around and grab a cocktail or two. We had a fireplace room and it snowed while we were there and it was just magical being on the river. Complimentary breakfast in the morning was wonderful as was 24/7 coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Our only two complaints would be that we thought it was weird at breakfast they only gave us one piece of toast to share and we had to cut it in half ourselves lol. Not a deal breaker whatsoever but just weird. And then again not a deal breaker but I think the furniture in the Annie Wilcox could use a refresh. Seemed a little old and tired even for a rustic Inn. Would definitely come again in the off season, price was great !
