Check-in was friendly, quick, easy, and professional. Although I'm not sure why they needed my phone number. I've been at many hotels that did not ask for this upon check-in. The entryway is relatively clean and inviting on the inside. The room was moderately clean and very cool upon entry. It was quiet and conducive to sleep. The bed was soft and comfortable. The layout is spacious. The bathroom was acceptable in its cleanliness except for some design flaws and very overdue maintenance. Clean and fluffy towels. The shower head was surrounded by drywall that was falling apart, and parts of the wall were bulging where there was too much moisture. Evidence of rust was evident nearly everywhere. Even the towel rack was covered in rust. The lights over the entryway and coffee area in the room were flickering. The door handles are worn and rusted. There were serious deficiencies with cleaning at this hotel that were more evident after our first 24 hours. The refrigerator gasket was black with dirt. Tile floors are sticky. Despite following the placard instructions and placing it on the bed, our sheets were never changed. The bed wasn't even made. There was something unidentifiable between the mattress and the box spring. Stains were all over the sheets and bedspread. The light switches had very thick layers of dirt. There was another stain on the cushioned chair. No other cleaning was performed during the day we were out. All that was done was the replacement of our towels. No replacement of soap was performed. They only provided one bar of soap to be used at the sink and shower and no refills for the shampoo and conditioner. If this hotel has wifi, it doesn't work well and is thus useless. The view from the window is a parking lot and a waste dumpster that is emptied on Friday morning around 7 am, which is loud but not too bad. This is just something to keep in mind. The breakfast is average with the usual packaged (not freshly made) scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, yogurt, cereals, bagels, fruit, waffles, coffee, tea, juice, etc. The landscaping for this hotel is seriously neglected. There are more weeds than actual plants in the beds. It could be a metaphor for some of the neglect in this hotel. The elevators have an odor that I can't identify. We did not have a chance to try out the pool and hot tub. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you're in a tight spot and need a relatively clean, safe, quiet, and moderately affordable hotel on the Southside near the Chesapeake Convention Center in July. Its location is far enough away from major roads to prevent road noise, and we were able to get a restful sleep. The price is much better than many of the overpriced hotels/motels in Virginia Beach, and it is quick and easy to get on Interstate 64.
