The Holiday Inn Express at South Lake Tahoe is located right on the busy Lake Tahoe Blvd (CA-50). Some of the best restaurants and shopping places and beaches are all within a 10 min drive from here. So, the location is fantastic.
The only issue with the hotel is that it lacks cleanliness. The elevator floor was so dirty that I was reluctant to put my luggage on the floor. The passage leading to the rooms has a rubber mesh on the floor that collects all the dirt and prevents proper cleaning. The hot tub was foaming due to poor water quality.
The price is high for a small room, but I guess they are charging for the location more than the rooms itself.

Was scheduled to stay there on a busy weekend to see a concert. Wife tested positive at Doctors office, she was told to isolate 5 days. Wife cancelled online morning of our stay. (I bet they booked it). Kathleen won’t even respond to an e-mail that I sent her asking for a future credit. We visit Southlake Tahoe twice every summer, we won’t be staying there any more.

I was extremely disappointed with the lack of room service at this hotel. For every request, the receptionist would ask me to come down to the front desk. When I asked for a sheet, I was told to stop by the reception, and when I did, they claimed they didn't have one, promising to send it to my room instead. However, I waited till late at night, called to follow up, and was still told to come down. To make matters worse, the room's two "queen beds" were actually full-size beds, not queen-size as advertised. The responsiveness was poor, and I'll definitely avoid this hotel in the future.

Full wifi signal without real internet access. This rating is based solely on management accountability to fixing their internet provider. Might as well as advertise no free wifi.

The complimentary breakfast is decent with the self cooking pancakes. The bedding and bathrooms are spacious, updated and great. Pool is closed winter time and kids play area seemed closed

The manager made a mistake and gave us the wrong lock box for after hours arrival. We opened the assigned lock box using the provided combination and found a room key that was not for the room he had said on the phone. It was late and the Inn cannot be contacted after hours, so we went to sleep in the room we had a key for. This would have been fine until the family who was supposed to be in this room, and had been provided the same lock box information, arrived at 1am and woke us up by banging on the window. They were angry, insisted on seeing our reservation, and eventually called the police. Fortunately the police politely allowed us to go back to sleep.

This is a one star review because in the morning the manager refused any responsibility despite giving us the lock box information over the phone himself. He just repeated over and over that we had opened the wrong lock box and taken the wrong keys.
I'll start with the pros:
- location
- separate kitchenette area
- heater/AC works great
- water pressure
- it's comfortable for a night or two
- silverware and plates/bowls provided
- microwave, fridge, toaster, blender, cups, utensils are provided

As for the cons, it's not a long list, but it's important.
- $39/night pet fee (unbelievable)
- dirty/stained bedding
- poor value for money spent (e.g., outdated and run down furnishings, no paintings/art in room, door looks installed improperly)
- customer service (more on that below)
- cheap amenities (TP, tissues, paper towels, shampoo/conditioner/soap)

So a quick story (i.e., vignette) on the customer service: only one coffee pod was provided for me and my girlfriend. Not a big deal, I'll just go ask the front desk for another, right? We get there, ask for a few more coffee pods, and he gives us only one. I asked for another since there were two of us and the attendant says "that makes four cups"....

Bra...these things cost you $0.30 per packet to order, and I dropped over $100 a night to sleep here. Don't you think I'm allowed more than one coffee pod per day?

Would not stay here again.

Ripoff alert! They randomly have "no refund" policy. But if you try to change to another date, then they'll rip you off with crazier prices. I fell for that when we had a change in plan. We originally booked for 1 night but wanted to change to 2. The original price was $230. I also checked online that they still have the same rooms available at that price, but when asked, they want $300. They say because they don't have room. So, I canceled it then of course they took my money just like that. But I would rather lose my money than dealing with business like this. Trust me, there are places that are a lot nicer available for cheaper than that. Also, free cancelation and better parking accommodation than this. Good luck finding parking, too. Stay away.

Me and my husband stayed here for our anniversary. I was nervous due to some reviews but our room was excellent and the staff was friendly. It was in a great location. Walking distance to all the things we wanted to do. We would definitely stay here again. Also the jetted tub and fireplace was amazing.

Great budget hotel. The rooms were comfortable, nice bathroom, and full sized fridge in the kitchenette. They provided enough towels for our weekend visit. The location is walkable to the town area and in quick driving distance to many hikes and outdoor activities. The area was quiet in the evening.
