Service is amazing. Lounge breakfast and late night time were good. The complaint is really the bad bad pillow. It’s so empty that when you lay down, there is literally no support. We stayed here twice across 3 years. And there is absolutely no change to those pillows. Never had good sleep here. View is good tho.

I really hate to complain but this was truly the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. They were 30min late for check in so we sat there waiting until finally I got up and asked and they were extremely rude. Then proceeded to say that our room was no longer available and gave us a different room. A different and worse room than what we had paid for. After getting up to our room we tried to call down and order room service where they hug up on us about 10 times. None of these issues are HUGE deals, I understand that, But when you pay $400+ per night, you expect a high quality experience and it was the way that the situation was handled that was so disappointing and I will never go back nor will I ever recommend the JW Marriott Grand Rapids to anyone else.

I attended our annual Greenridge Realty awards ceremony a few days ago and I LOVED having it here. Beautiful property, very attentive and courteous staff and the food and drinks that were catered were amazing! Great parking- we parked at the ramp and took the SkyWalk across to the event. Great location downtown. I definitely recommend this place.

Great property. Rooms are updated and the hotel is in a great spot. Was surprised my program status was never acknowledged - I even had to specify my status for late checkout. Overall a great experience but surprised a marquee brand didn’t live up to the small details. Would stay again

I can't say enough about the top notch customer service at the hotel!! The receptionist and supervisor, Molly and Bella are the most kind and patient humans. I made an error with my reservation and they took the time to assist me and correct my issue with patience and kindness. I am so grateful for these two turning my bad day around. I love staying at this hotel and I will be back again! A beautiful hotel with the best staff! My room is amazing with river views and updated decor. I couldn't be happier.

I stayed here for 4 days for a conference and was completely disappointed. First off the bathroom was so small and had a pedestal sink. There was not enough room to hold all of my toiletries to get ready. The TV didn't work and I was advised that someone would be sent up to look at it. No one came up. The carpet was pulling away from the tile in the bathroom and I accidentally stepped on the tack strip that's supposed to be holding the carpet in place. I bought new socks and made the mistake of wearing them in the room...they are so stained from the extremely dirty floor that I am going to have to throw them out. Do better!

Beautiful and very classy hotel in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. Couple of cute boutique shops with a unique variety and perfect for gift shopping. Explore and discover the hidden speakeasy featuring an artistic atmosphere and cocktail menu. Our room is always crispy clean; however, on our next visit we'll request a room without an adjoining door because it literally sounds like the people in the next room are in our room. Finally, I want to give props to the bell and valet staff! They are all friendly and quick to assist.

Positives: Nice gym for a hotel.

Negatives: Rooms and bathrooms are small and not nice. Bed is uncomfortable, sheets are scratchy, pillows feel cheap. Furniture in room was old and dirty. It’s also crazy we couldn’t get complimentary water when we paid nearly $800 for 2 nights. My wife and I woke up parched in the middle of the night and had to drink tap water. Also $40 a night for parking is very steep.

Overall, it was not a good experience. There was a group of highschool students that ran up and down the halls from 9:30-10:45 while hooting and hollaring. We did call front desk to ask them to move their party down to the lobby. They promptly sent up a worker to make that request which is why I’m giving them 2/5 stars instead of 1/5. Workers were polite and service was fine. We feel that for what we paid it was a let down. Would have rather stayed at another hotel for half the price and received a comparable experience.

This hotel does the absolute bare minimum to try and justify the price. I've stayed at the Amway Grand in Grand Rapids twice now, and both experiences were equally disappointing. The rooms are not nice, the bathrooms are actually pretty bad, and the walls are so thin that you can hear every word spoken in adjacent rooms and every sound in the hallway. On my last stay, I was awakened at 6 AM by a screaming family Sunday morning and could hear someone playing piano in another room. 4 star hotels usually do some kind sound proofing, Amway does zero.

Despite the numerous dining options, getting basic things like food and water is incredibly difficult. It took me over 30 minutes just to get a bottle of water because I had to traverse the entire hotel and wait in a long line at Starbucks. Late-night food options are nonexistent, forcing me to wait hours for a delivery that never came. For a hotel priced at $400 a night, these issues are unacceptable.

Additionally, the hotel’s claim of being a historic hotel is highly misleading. It’s a small historic building with a giant modern hotel attached, and there’s nothing historic about the rooms, the bathrooms, or the overall experience. I’ve tried staying in the historic side both times, even booked a suite once, but they never let me. It’s as if they’re advertising something that doesn’t exist.

We stayed here for the weekend for our daughter's vocal competition.
I'll start with the positives. The people were helpful and very friendly. Housekeeping, bell hops, desk attendants, etc.
The hotel itself is in a very nice location, with plenty of restaurants and other activities within walking distance. It is a classic hotel, with beautiful woodwork, cascading arched ceilings, brass buttoned elevators and crystal chandeliers. Very cool. It seemed to be pretty clean.
It also has a very nice pool, and several very nice restaurants (and Starbucks).
So...now the negatives.
The website did not make clear that our room had a refrigerator. We discovered it by accident, as it was hidden within the dresser upon which the TV stood. It also didn't make clear that the room had a coffee maker.
We like to bring some food/coffee/snacks to make our stay more manageable. See below for more on this.
But the 4 biggest issues:
No microwave. I know that they can cause issues by triggering smoke alarms (when people just do stupid things with them), but we love being able to warm food in our room.
The electrical receptacles were very loose (a common issue in hotels due to high use). It is a nuisance trying to get them to work with your devices. But it is also an arcing/fire hazard. I can't stress this enough. Arcing causes intense heat, heat further weakens the metal. This can cause the metal to break within the receptacle-with potentially nasty consequences. These should be replaced regularly.
Parking in their structure was expensive. Convenient, yes, but pricey.
Lastly, the shower started hot and within a minute started bouncing between lukewarm and cool. This was during the evening, mid afternoon and early morning, so it probably wasn't solely due to demand. This is a first for me, as most hotels have pretty good showers.
Though we enjoyed a discount rate for being part of an event, the normal prices are pretty steep, especially considering the aforementioned issues.
