I visited Hotel Deco for Valentine’s Day and had planned to decorate the room, so I requested an early check-in. Upon arrival, I greeted the front desk attendant and inquired about checking in early. She immediately informed me that there would be a $35 fee, which was fine, and asked for my ID and credit card. However, when my card didn’t seem to work, she mumbled something I couldn’t hear. When I asked her to repeat herself, she suddenly raised her voice to a high octave, which felt unnecessary. While she may have thought she was being polite, she didn’t come across as warm or welcoming.Once I got to my room, I was immediately met with a spider, which I had to kill despite my fear of them. On top of that, I noticed black mold spots near the corner of the comforter and in front of the bed. At that point, I decided I couldn’t stay. When I went back to the front desk to inform the same attendant of what I had found, she didn’t offer to switch my room—just stated that they couldn’t issue a refund due to their 24-hour notice policy. I accepted that and simply asked about my deposit, but again, her demeanor was cold and unwelcoming.Overall, the hotel felt outdated, and while it had a regal aesthetic, it seemed more like a worn-down version of its former self, with a surface-level refresh.
