Great place to stay, friendly staff. Here for work, very accommodating. Took care of a package issue for me, no complaints! Great place to stay, near some good places to eat. Nice touch being so close to Hyvee 🙂 Only complaint is that the streaming is not working on the tv's

My friends always tease me for staying at inexpensive hotels, calling them flea-infested, unsafe, etc. Their flea-infested accusation might stand here. If I had to guess, I've averaged 10 nights of travel per year the last 5 years, whether hotel or Airbnb. Occasionally I'll stay at an expensive place, but mostly I'm at the Super 8, Motel 6, etc. This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had and I plan to never stay here again. I actually like Wyndham, but never again at this location.

I stayed here last Fri night, on the 4th of July, and checked out the next morning. I was itchy when I woke up, but after taking a shower I
was better. I thought maybe it was b/c it was summertime, I had sweat too much, should've showered before bed, etc. But nope, I got itchy again later in the day, and noticed some welts had formed on my neck. Even in the summertime I like to stay covered in long pants and a long-sleeved shirt (linen), and I did some sightseeing on Sat and didn't get home til after midnight. After I undressed, I was shocked. It's Sun 3 p.m. as I'm writing this. I had last night, and still have right now, about 15-20 welts on my legs, arms, and neck. Thank God I slept w/some clothing on. And this one part of my arm is more accurately described as a straight-up rash. I have to control myself b/c otherwise I'll scratch and scratch til I'm bleeding. This is just unbelievable. I've been in
the same house for 3 years and the same car for 5.5 years. I went to a Barnes & Noble cafe on Fri afternoon that I'd been to before, I went to the opera that night in Indianola that I'd been to before, I went to a restaurant Sat morning I'd never been to before, and a museum that afternoon I'd never been to before...But it's hard for me to believe I
caught something at any of those places, esp the way I dress. I really think I caught this at the hotel. Just unbelievable.

So where to start. No elevator, so it was hard on me to walk up and down the stairs due to having knee and back surgery. Called the front desk to get extra towels, 1 extra pillow and a list of restaurants that deliver. The person that answer the phone was rude and gave me the extra towels, no pillow and coupons for papa John's. Advertised the was a swimming pool and it is under construction. Toilet when you sit felt like it was going to tip over. Not very happy at all..

For what it is the room had everything I need, a fridge, microwave, ac that works very well, great lighting, nice big tub/shower. A very friendly person at the desk! 2 things I would like to see in this specific hotel are wall/light display cell phone charge inlet/outlet. And for elderly and handicap - an elevator of some sort.

Updated review: We made a reservation through hotels.com (which said nothing of the pool not being available). When we got there, the pool was under construction. We had 9 kids in our party and the pool was a big deal. I explained that to the front desk and asked the front desk if we could cancel our reservations and go find a place with a pool and I was happily surprised she said yes - it was great. So we found a hotel nearby and stayed there. They get the review for two reasons 1) they let us cancel the reservations at check-in, which was the good customer service thing to do. 2) although they charged us for the rooms at first (even though we didn't stay there), we did eventually get our money back after some persistent phone calls.

Due to winter storms the wife and I found ourselves in Des Moines instead of Kansas City and no place to stay.

Found this hotel, very affordable and close to the airport. We expected a dive but this hotel was great! Literally 3 minutes from the airport, clean rooms and very friendly staff.

If we end up in Des Moines again we will be staying here!

Great location across the street from the Des Moines airport. I was able to eat breakfast before heading out for a 8:00 a.m. flight home. Desk staff members were friendly. Breakfast is standard motel breakfast: make your own waffles, eggs, sausage, grits, cereals, fruits, mini muffins etc. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Even though the airport is across the street, I hardly ever heard any planes. I would stay there again.

Decent hotel for the price, but not sure I would stay again.
Negatives: Room was somewhat clean, but the floors were filthy, like turn your feet black filthy, and most of the furniture was falling apart, including a very wobbly toilet. Bed was awful, unless your preferred mattress type is equivalent to sleeping on a rock, in which case you’d love it. Pool was also completely drained, so that was a bummer.
Positives: It was quiet, and the staff was pretty friendly.

The location to the airport is great. Gentleman who checked us in late was very nice. Room was good. Clean and comfortable. The jets are quite loud early in the morning, but you're right across from the airport so is to be expected. The continental breakfast in the morning was GREAT!! Definitely exceeded our expectations

Jada was the reason we chose to stay here! She was sooooo sweet and so helpful. I needed help with checking and she went above and beyond. Again I needed help after missing the airport shuttle and she called and had him back within minutes! I was with my husband and our 2 little ones, so the extra thoughtful help really meant a lot and showed the greatest customer service. You could tell it wasn’t just about the job, she is genuinely just kind hearted.

The reason for the 4 stars is our floor in the room was sticky. So we just kept our shoes on. Also, the side door used to get in was a little hard to open and close with a baby in my arms. It’d get stuck every time. Really the floors just grossed me out. I felt clean after showering though so not too bad!

Great for a one night stay, I wouldn’t say great for the weekend.

Staff was super friendly & attentive even with our late arrival at 2AM. Very helpful with parking options. Parking garage right across the street that is very cheap! Complimentary breakfast was great & had plenty of options. Check in and check out were both so easy. Our room was HUGE & had a fireplace—so cozy! We will definitely be back!

This hotel was absolutely perfect! The decor is very eclectic and interesting, not your ordinary hotel. The rooms are spacious and the bed was amazing! We had a working fireplace in our room! 2 tvs, a sofa, a minibar, a small dinning table and a jacuzzi!
There’s a public parking across the street where you can park for $10 over night. There are a couple of nice restaurants within walking distace. All the employees were very professional and attentive. I will stay there again next time I’m in town.

I was really impressed by the Des Lux Hotel. The atmosphere and enviance were very eclectic. The rooms are huge by hotel standards. The hotel/halls were quiet. The gym and sauna and sitting areas were all well maintained. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and restful. I truly enjoyed the room which included a fireplace, a full-sized leather couch and a separate sitting area with a dinette table. Aesthetically, it was the best hotel room I've ever stayed in. Be advised that any room that is on the interior side of the hotel will have zero view and it isn't even worth opening the curtains. Even natural sunlight was reduced. Also on every floor, rooms 3 and 12 are going to be next to the elevator shaft and it is quite noticeable, especially during heavy use periods and at night (it woke me up a couple of times). Parking is either by meter on the street or in the city garage across the street, but it's only $10 per day and free on Sundays (no in/out options, you have to pay each time you exit). The hotel location is downtown, but there are several dining options within short walking distances. I would stay at this hotel again and would highly recommend it to others.

We loved the hotel. Staff in bar, at desk, and breakfast were all very friendly. It had a fun and unique charm. There are a few updates to be made to the bathrooms and spa but the furnishings and amenities were lovely. Will go again.

One of our favorite downtown hotels with amazing historic details which we love! We tried the king whirlpool new room and it was just perfect! We always love an inside atrium room for the quiet and peaceful nights sleep. The beds are perfect and the pillows never disappoint.
The lobby was very tastefully decorated for Halloween. We loved the gold skeletons and the dark creatures around. There was absolutely nothing to find offensive in any of the decor. We loved it!
Breakfast is always a win! The mix of hot foods and grab and go options is great.
We love our time here, always and we will be back!

Beautiful building. Servers and desk staff were very good. The hotel is currently decorated with many interesting Halloween decorations that were frightening to the children and concerned adults in our party as well. The hotel is not the cleanest-perhaps some of the Halloween decorating budget could be put toward cleaning instead. Death is a pretty grim theme for a hotel lobby.

We had a fantastic time at the Des Lux Hotel. We lost power of my wife's birthday weekend, due to a massive storm, so we decided to drive a couple hours and check out the city. The hotel definitely helped make our experience very fun.

All aspects of the experience were nice, from the staff's helpfulness, to the cleanliness of the room, to the quality of the breakfast.

We were very please with our experience. Though a bit of luck, we did get to stay in their nicest suite for one night and it was quite remarkable. Definitely somewhere I would consider staying for a wedding.
